All MPH and MHA students are required to submit a master's essay paper, which is submitted as a paper document, not electronically.
In lieu of the essay, some MPH and MHA students choose to defend and submit a master's thesis. Theses must be submitted electronically.
All essays must be read by a minimum of two faculty readers and approved before you begin writing by the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.
Students should consult their academic advisor regarding the department's requirements for the essay. All students should refer to a style guide (e.g., Strunk and White's Elements of Style of the Chicago Manual of Style) and must adhere to the format requirements outlined in the University's Style and Form Manual.
Certain departments allow students to submit in lieu of an essay an article published by the student as the primary author, and based on research conducted during the student's enrollment at GSPH. See section on use of articles. Students must confirm via an email or memo from the department whether the department permits this practice. Students submitting a published article in lieu of standard essay are nonetheless required to submit all of the required documentation described below.
